Following the advice in Iowa Weaver’s blog post, I wanted my threading to start and end on harness 3, since doing so keeps the warp float length to a minimum on the outside edges. I came up with this calculator to test whether a given number of ends would be suitable to use.

At this time the calculator responds with “yes” or “no”: I plan to update the code to give the closest number of ends that works – eventually!

Notes:

• Since the calculator is helping you to determine if your desired number of ends will allow your threading to start and end on shaft 3, it doesn’t include ends used for floating selvedges, since they are, by definition, not threaded!
